DermaSilk® garments, developed by Alpretec, are made of pure silk with an antimicrobial finish. Their smooth, breathable surface is designed to reduce friction and irritation on sensitive skin.
They can be used alongside the physician's recommendations on sensitive and irritation-prone skin, particularly in atopic dermatitis (eczema).
What does the evidence say?
Some small clinical studies have reported reductions in itching and eczema severity with silk garments. On the other hand, the large randomised CLOTHES trial in children (Thomas et al., PLOS Medicine, 2017) showed that adding silk garments to standard care did not provide significant additional benefit in eczema severity. DermaSilk® garments should therefore be regarded as an option that supports comfort and skin care.
